Hi I made the Easy paleo keto bread 5 ingredients. It was moist, texture was good but it didn’t turn out completely white, more like a pale yellow and the crust was overdone. I opted for honey as my sweetner because this bread is for my nephew who has autism and we want to keep it as natural as possible. I baked the bread exactly at 325 for 40mins uncovered and then another 40mins covered (tent). What could I do next time to achieve a white bread with golden crust?
So happy I found your site, out of all the keto sites I’ve clicked on yours is the best!! You actually give us a plan to get started and I love your humor :) I’ve tried living keto before but it was the diet along with a lot of supplements and nasty shakes…it wasn’t for me! I don’t like drinking my snacks and meals just to get into ketosis! Looking forward to trying this again and trying your recipes!

I used a food processor and thought that I had added a little too much water. So I added 2 tbsp coconut flour at the end and let it rest for a couple of minutes after mixing (only until combined). The dough was a great consistency and shaped well (with wet fingers). I baked them for 55-60 minutes and then shut the oven off and let them rest in the hot oven. I was curious so I opened them up and put them back in the oven until it cooled down. They turned out really well. A touch moist inside but crispy on the outside and so delicious! Perfect for burgers!
I just tried this for the first time and it didn’t turn out :(, it is very gummy and dense. I used Now Healthy Foods Psyllium Husk Powder, I measure out 10 TBSP and then weighed it, it went way over 90 grams on my scale so I kept using less and less until I got to what I thought was 90 grams. This powder is very fine. I looked for Jay Robb psyllium husk powder but the only thing on his website is psyllium seed husks? No powder? I see on your “store” you’re promoting “Frontier” psyllium husk powder, should we use that instead?
It just needed a bit more structure, so for trial number three I split the difference, using half coconut flour and half almond flour. There’s a reason they say the third time’s a charm. This was the perfect blend. The bread was moist but firm enough to hold its shape, and it didn’t taste like coconut. After that, I began experimenting: hazelnut flour worked great, and cheese and scallions added great flavor.
Wondering how many carb foods you can eat and still be “in ketosis”? The traditional ketogenic diet, created for those with epilepsy consisted of getting about 75 percent of calories from sources of fat (such as oils or fattier cuts of meat), 5 percent from carbohydrates and 20 percent from protein. For most people a less strict version (what I call a “modified keto diet”) can still help promote weight loss in a safe, and often very fast, way.
In our keto bread recipe, we use a combination of coconut and almond flours so neither is overpowering. We also use a touch of psyllium husk powder to help achieve the right texture. A little bit of beef gelatin acts as a binder and adds bread-like “chew” to the final result. Our recipe only contains egg whites, which add structure and act as a natural leavening agent, but without the eggy flavor that the yolks would add.
Ezekiel bread stands out among most varieties because it’s made without added sugar and from sprouted whole grains. The sprouting process increases the amount and bio-availability of vitamins, like vitamin C, and minerals, like folate and lysine, so Ezekiel bread is a bonafide nutritional powerhouse. Quick lesson on sprouting grains: Companies can do it one of two ways—dry or wet.
Hi Maya, I’m new to your website and I’m anxious to try out this bread recipe. I’m helping my 27 year old son lose some weight. He’s on some pretty potent medication that has caused him to crave carbs thus putting on quite a bit of weight over the past few years. Since I’m his caregiver and also a Certified Nutritionist, I’m looking for some healthy alternatives to make his transition a bit easier and he loves bread.

The keto diet works by eliminating carbohydrates from the your daily intake and keeping the body’s carbohydrate stores almost empty, therefore preventing too much insulin from being released following food consumption and creating normal blood sugar levels. This can help reverse “insulin resistance,” which is the underlying problem contributing to diabetes symptoms. In studies, low-carb diets have shown benefits for improving blood pressure, postprandial glycemia and insulin secretion. (7)
Fantastic! So easy to make. Not sure if I didn’t mix mine well enough, but it had a couple of “air holes” in it after baking. Did not matter…tastes great. I made a grilled cheese out of two of the slices…delicious! I can’t wait to try some of the ideas from the comments: adding herbs and/or spices, adding cinnamon and stevia, etc. Seems the possibilities are endless.
Bread is also a source of a range of micronutrients, both naturally occurring and fortified. For example, it is mandatory for folic acid to be added to bread-making flour, which plays a key role in the synthesis of our DNA and is important to reduce the risk of certain birth defects (known as neural tube defects). To be sure of added nutrients, you should always check the ingredients list.
Con: Results can vary depending on how much fluid you drink. By drinking more water, you dilute the concentration of ketones in the urine and thus a lower level of ketones will be detected on the strips. The strips don’t show a precise ketone level. Finally, and most importantly, as you become increasingly keto-adapted and your body reabsorbs ketones from the urine, urine strips may become unreliable, even if you’re in ketosis.
Dear butter.girl, I would love to try this as I too find almond meal pretty expensive to replenish my stock constantly not to mention I ‘d love to just try a new kind of healthy flour. I have tons of raw sunflower seeds in my pantry and was going to make my next loaf of amazing bread. Did you just replace the 3 cups of almond flour with 3 cups of sunflower seed flour? All the rest of the ingredients remained the same?
We’ve included a printable shopping list and meal plan for your convenience! Again, use these tools as a reference and not as the be all end all. If you see something else on sale that you enjoy eating, go for that! This can be used as a framework for how to eat on keto. This isn’t the most ideal meal plan for optimal health, but it’s a pretty good one for cheap. I would recommend getting some coconut oil in this plan if possible, but we couldn’t fit it into our all-inclusive approach. If you buy in bulk on amazon coconut oil is cheap!
These are one of the best bagels we’ve come across: They pack tons of heart-healthy fiber, plus 10 grams of weight loss-boosting protein in each serving. Not to mention, they serve up 15 percent of the day’s thiamin, a vitamin that helps convert carbs to energy. Translation: Fewer carbohydrates will lurk around and become stored as fat on your frame.

Hello, thank you for the recipe! I’m only a short time on the Keto program and miss carbs SOOO much! Tried this bread for the first time tonight and have a few things to say. For anyone not on the metric system, it works out to be about 3.2 tablespoons for the flour and 2.1 teaspoons for the butter. I’m assuming mine came out okay with those measurements but, if someone came up with a different amount, please let me know. Now, the bread came out exactly as you said it would. I cut mine in slices and put it straight into the toaster oven until it started to brown on top and get a little crunchy. For my filling I used some aged white cheddar and a couple thin slices of organic ham. With the cup I used, this came out about 2/3 the size of an English muffin. I was so excited for the first bite! Now, the negatives, which I’m hoping to fix. As it was microwaving, and when I pulled it out, there was just a really unpleasant, weird egg smell. I’m SOOO over eggs right now that I’m hoping I can figure out a way for that to go away. Maybe adding some garlic to the mix??? Also, I could taste the egg in the bread. Maybe for a breakfast sandwich it wouldn’t be so noticeable but, for the sandwich I made, it almost hid the taste of my ham and cheese. Back to the positives. This was only my first attempt and I’m THRILLED that I felt like I was having a sandwich. I like how some people have added their “recipes.” If I come up with a good one, I’ll write a quick replay. Thanks again for the recipe!!!!

Over 8–10 mmol/l: It’s normally impossible to get to this level just by eating a keto diet. It means that something is wrong. The most common cause by far is type 1 diabetes, with severe lack of insulin. Symptoms include feeling very sick with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and confusion. The possible end result, ketoacidosis, may be fatal and requires immediate medical care. Learn more

If you talk to keto aficionados, you’ll find many save leftovers from dinner for the next day’s lunch. Cook once, eat twice—your keto diet menu for lunch is solved. If you don’t like leftovers or if you’re craving something different for lunch, the mid-day meal can be as simple as a scoop of chicken salad. Or, hit the salad bar at a local grocery store and top a bowl of greens with some good-fat goodies. You can also try one of these simple keto lunches:

Along the same vein, some of my recipes on the blog include hemp seeds, coconut flour, almond flour, and other not so easy to find ingredients – IGNORE THOSE RECIPES (for now). The focus here is, again, simplicity. You will likely be irritable, fatigued, and not feeling awesome during the first three days to a week. Trust me on this – the last thing you are going to want to do is make complicated meals.
Hey Maya!! This is the 2nd recipe I’ve tried off your website and again I love it!! Turned out really well. I can have sandwiches again or a quick piece Of toast when I’m in a hurry to get out the door. I was skeptical about the xanthan gum since I tried a recipe using psyllium husk powder. I did not like it. I can’t taste the xanthan gum so I have no problem using it going forward. Thanks again for the recipe!!!

If you did attempt to eat one food for an extended period of time, you would probably get sick of eating the item far before you gave yourself any severe nutritional deficiencies. That’s due to a psychological phenomenon called sensory specific satiety. Scientists have found that the more you eat something, there’s a corresponding decline in pleasantness. But some foods are more prone to this than others (like high protein foods), and some researchers have found that bread might be in fact fairly resistant to this phenomenon.

Angie, I’m happy to hear you and your hubby enjoyed the taste, but sorry to hear the bread was flat! The egg whites don’t need to be whipped for this recipe, but I’ll try to help you troubleshoot…first I would check to make sure that your baking powder is fresh. Also, did you use the full cup of egg whites? Did you make any ingredient substitutions or adjustments? Did you use a 9 by 5-inch loaf pan? Did you cook it at 350F and is your oven properly calibrated? Did you bake it for the amount of time the recipe calls for? I hope this helps!
Hi, I’ve made this recipe twice and LOVE the taste. However, both times the bread would rise so high in the oven, but as soon as I take it out to cool it deflated and middle sink down. What could’ve gone wrong? Over mixing? I did switch coconut flour to all almond flour instead. Could that be a problem? Please help as I’m anxious to make another batch. Thank you.
A friend who gave me your recipe said to drink a glass of water with it.How many slices of the amazing bread can one eat without the psyllium causing a problem for a normal person per day?The replies are so long, but from what I did read no one complained about any problems caused by eating the bread or having to drink something. So can I eat this bread like other breads without drinking something?
I have the same calories limit and macro. I easily stay within the limit but I completely stopped eating any type of bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and starchy food. I started using butter or coconut oil to cook and put mayo EVERYWHERE. It’s my new favourite topping for lettuce even XD. Then I eat plenty of eggs/meat/fatty fish and cheese. Olives are great as a snack. I cut out completely milk and use whipping cream instead. If you get into this completely counter intuitive way of thinking of food it’s super easy to get enough fat within the calorie limit.

I for one loved this article, and my very first thought after I read it (and before I read any comments) was I could have written this article! I thought the point of the article was how simple it is to eat this way....and how freeing it is....and therefore sustainable...finally! A way of eating that in its simplicity is sustainable for life. I could have written that article, right down to living in beautiful B.C. (Kootenay boundary) with a huge vegetable garden and access to farm eggs, meat, butter and cheese and “buying local” whenever I can. Part of the reason I started this way of eating was because I wanted to get away from prepackaged food, from reading labels, from someone else having control of what I eat...and those companies can be sneaky with their ingredients. So for me anyway (and I’m retired with time on my hands, no judgement here to anyone) I just prefer to make it myself...and I’m also finding the longer I do it, the simpler it is becoming, just like Anne. I only wish I had realized sooner just how simple it was going to be to change my life in such a positive way.
