I’ve worked, and I’m working really hard, not to be weird about food. Like many women, especially, it’s been something I’ve been conscious of having to keep an eye on since school, where eating disorders were a core lesson of Key Stage 3, then through adulthood, where an essential facet of feminine bonding is sharing a hatred of our own bodies, and where, in the past decade, the idea of dieting to lose weight has morphed into a far more complicated and expensive concept of wellness, classing foods as either good or bad, right or wrong.

This is one of my go-to guilt-free desserts. It is easy, perfect for the warmer months when those ice cream cravings kick in, and it only requires a handful of ingredients. Banana ice cream has also gained some serious popularity after people started to realize just how delicious it can be and how whipped bananas closely resemble soft serve ice cream.

Eating whole foods, including healthy fats and protein, help to keep us feeling satiated, balance our energy and mood and keep carb cravings down, all of which aid in maintaining or achieving a healthy weight. So, not only does a diet full of whole foods alleviate food guilt, it also eliminates the need to count calories.
We first learned about the harmful effects of sunlight from long-term population studies. Our understanding of the risks associated with tanning beds has developed more slowly, because they are a relatively recent phenomenon, first appearing commercially in the United States during the late 1970s. Since the late 1990s, however, mounting evidence has shown a link between tanning bed use and all skin cancers. What is it about these foods that make us feel guilty? It’s different for everyone. Generally speaking, American society’s obsession with healthy eating can make it seem “better” to opt for a salad (nutritious, lower in calories, green) rather than a burger (oily, higher in calories, processed).
