“When we finally take the restrictions off our food choices, we’re less likely to crave or overeat those indulgent foods,” Pike said. “What you eat over the long haul is more important than any one particular meal or food item that you eat. Your eating patterns should be sustainable long-term, considering your taste preferences, budget and lifestyle.”

4. HEAT an 8" skillet on medium heat. Spray with cooking spray and pour about 1⁄4 cup of the batter into the skillet. Immediately tilt the skillet and swirl the batter around to coat the entire cooking surface. Cook until the bottom side is golden brown, 1 to 1½ minutes. Loosen with a spatula and flip, using the spatula and your fingers to help turn the crêpe. Cook until the opposite side is golden brown, reducing the heat to medium low if the crêpe browns too quickly, about 45 seconds. Transfer to a plate and cover with a kitchen towel.

Peanut butter has to be one of my favourite go-to spreads. But I have to admit, I always feel a little bit guilty after indulging in it. It may be delicious, but it’s packed with calories, and the non-organic peanut butter that fills most households is basically pure sugar, which is no good, especially if you’re trying to lose weight. Food guilt is something a lot of people struggle with daily and it’s no wonder since the messages around us are constantly telling us to eat less red meat, that eggs are high in cholesterol, that all carbs are bad, that you must eat non-GMO and 100% organic, that saturated fat is bad and too much fruit is bad - it’s no wonder the population is confused and feeling guilty! Not only that, but many of us are trying to lose a few extra pounds, so even if healthy food is being consumed, there is still a lot of guilt experienced around the amount of calories one has probably eaten.

Why would you have plain old sweet-potato fries when you can wrap them in bacon? This recipe calls for just two ingredients: sweet potatoes and bacon. The only trick is twirling the bacon around the sweet potato fries, but it's pretty darn easy. What you end up with is a surprisingly attractive party hors d'oeuvre (if you don't devour them all yourself, of course).
Changing habits is an emotional processes by nature. They can be borne out of unhappiness, an intrinsic motivation such as being able to keep up with one’s kids, or simply a desire to lead a healthier lifestyle. Whatever the reason, lifestyle changes are often deeply personal. While some people love engaging in health and fitness communities, others would rather keep their information in a private app and never say a word about their goals. But no matter how you slice it, almost anyone who is trying to make a change in their diet has experienced food-related guilt. One study found that 80% of women and 70% of men suffer from food guilt. So what is food guilt and why does it happen to so many people?
Quick story: My brother recently moved to Bermuda for work and went to a new dentist there. While the dentist was introducing himself - doing his spiel - he touted to my brother, “And I want you to know, we’re very proud that all of our equipment is totally sterile and we check it before each patient - just like in the States!” Not only did this make my brother think about the possibility of non-sterile equipment being used but it also created doubt about other dentists in Bermuda! (and was a funny story) Point is: making a statement like this - even if it’s about something that didn’t cross your mind earlier, or that you already assumed to be true, creates doubt about other products that don’t advertise that feature.
In 2007, the International Agency for Research on Cancer analyzed 19 studies on indoor tanning and the risk for melanoma. It concluded that people who started indoor tanning before age 35 had a 75% greater risk of developing melanoma. Since 2003, UV radiation from any source has been listed by the U.S. National Toxicology Program as a known carcinogen (cancer-causing substance). Currently, many government agencies caution against tanning.
These vegan-friendly peanut butter cheese crackers might look familiar. Remember that old Keebler Sandwich Cracker that left your fingers orange and oily. Those highly processed crackers are made with words that are unknown to the English language that will keep the shelf life long but your appetite short. Those may be a quick fix, but there are almost no nutrients in the supermarket version of these cookies. We recommend you give these natural peanut butter cheese crackers a try next time you’re in the mood for something savory with a little sweet!
She further explained that having a positive attitude toward food is best for our emotional well-being. “In practice, this would mean feeling freedom to eat a range of food, including so-called ‘unhealthy’ options,” she said. “However, many people require support to be able to do this, particularly if they are using food for emotional regulation purposes ― they are using food for comfort or distraction the way others may use alcohol, shopping and sex. If the person identifies as having a true sugar addiction, striving for complete abstinence is wise.”

Thick Icelandic yogurt, skyr, is made into a creamy no-bake cheesecake that’s naturally high in protein and calcium, and is also gluten-free with a nut and date crust. Fat-free Greek yogurt is a healthy alternative to sour cream or traditional full-fat yogurt. One 6-ounce serving has 100 calories, about half the calories of full-fat yogurt. This serving also has nearly 20 grams of protein and about 20 percent of your daily calcium requirement. Enjoy fat-free Greek yogurt as a dip for fresh cucumber slices, or blend it with fresh berries in a smoothie.
“It’s more about honoring your hunger, preferences and health,” Pike said. “Intuitive eaters understand that eating isn’t perfect and it never will be, so shame no longer has a place.” In a blog post on intuitive eating, Pike offered a hunger scale that used “eat-mojis” to rate hunger from starving to stuffed. The scale suggested “satisfied” was the best spot.
Finally, I learned about functional medicine and found a practitioner that I hoped could help me. They ran specialized tests that were far different than I had ever had before. When I got the results back, it turned out I had candida, parasites, high cortisol, the Epstein Bar Virus and many food intolerances. I also had an issue with my thyroid that no one found before because they were using the conventional medicine lab ranges which are way too broad….which I now know is one of the leading causes of hypothyroid misdiagnosis.
I know exactly where you are because I’ve been there myself…I remember being so tired that I could barely function. I gained 30 pounds out of nowhere and had a severe case of brain fog. I also started to get severe anxiety and panic attacks. I was driven and motivated…until I wasn’t. I didn’t know what was happening to me. All I wanted was to get my life back…
Oh. Wow. Never would I have thought that a Diet Soda + Cake Mix = a decadent, yet low fat CAKE! Consider my mind blown. Just by nixing the eggs and oil, you deduct many calories from the cake. But who would have thought that adding a can of my favorite diet soda to it instead of the eggs and oil would make such a divine, diet-friendly dessert! Not me!!!!! Gotta be honest. I was truly skeptical. I decided I would give it a go but not have high expectations. And honestly, it was really delicious!

Hi Hilda, thanks for the info on the sugar and the link. Just to ensure I am understanding the #’s, is it safe to say that the total carb count is 7.3g? And of that 7.3g the sugar amount is 3.9g? I have an app I use to track and it is simple total carbs, total fat and total protein, that is as detailed as it gets. I wanted to put this recipe in that appt journal so I can track correctly.
Hi Heidi, If you do not have any on hand just leave it out. The coffee just enhances the flavor. You can't use regular coffee because it would add unnecessary liquid. This is an example of what I mean by espresso instant powder: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LTI9DH2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B01LTI9DH2&linkCode=as2&tag=fittoserveg06-20&linkId=0b16eb7c16f1f2be9589c12e866571fa If you happen to have regular instant coffee this also would work.

The key to this is high-intensity workouts. This variation of the Keto Diet s not intended for the majority of gym-goers. If you are a runner, play on an intramural sports league, or attend cardio classes, stick with the SKD. You can still get the boost that you need with a fat bomb before or after your workout. If you are a bodybuilder, or a professional athlete, then the TKD might be for you.
I am a big fan of coconut oil and flour for cooking as coconut feeds your digestive tract encouraging the growth of good bacteria. Did you realize that 70% of the cells in your immune system are in the digestive tract? Good reason to ensure you get the right diet and ingredients into you. Coconut also kills yeast infections such as Candida and bad bacteria while leaving the good bacteria. This book will help you utilize coconut oil and flour to the max.

I decided to make it while my older boys were at baseball practice (so they wouldn’t see what I was making) and then give them a piece after dinner and get their feedback. They. Loved. It. When I told them it had a can of Diet Coke in it, their jaws hit the floor! You can use any kind of diet soda and any cake mix too – I’m already thinking of the yummy combos! Strawberry cake mix + orange soda, funfetti cake + lemon-lime soda, I mean seriously the list goes on and on! I’m a chocolate freak and currently trying to maintain a healthier diet, so this really hit the spot!
